An Aspirin a day, “aka NSAIDS“, can kill you. So can other OTC drugs like – Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen, and Tylenol.  And that doesn’t even touch the opiode epidemic that is ripping our country apart. While Americans continue to seek answers to their pain in pill form, our health as a nation continues to deteriorate. Did You Know that all NSAIDS are harmful and dangerous, even in small amounts?  Most think that because they can be purchased over the counter and because many conventional doctors recommend them that they are safe to use, but nothing could be further from the truth.

NSAIDs, OTC Drugs – or “Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs” include:

  • Aleve
  • Ibuprofen
  • Naproxin
  • Advil
  • Aspirin
  • Celebrex
All these drugs damage the digestive tract, allowing for “leaky gut” and increased inflammation and pain down the road.  They also lead to major complications like: Heart Failure and Heart Attacks Internal Bleeding Renal Failure Serious Allergic Reactions A dirty little secret of NSAIDS was that physicians originally opposed NSAID’s being classified as Over The Counter or OTC drugs because of their dangers, with many even favoring the “black box” warning, reserved for the most dangerous and harmful drugs.  The influence of the pharmaceutical companies won over the well intentioned doctors, and the rest is history. NSAID’s are responsible for over 100,000 hospitalizations and 16,000 deaths annually in the United States.  You read that right, meaning NSAIDS, the ones marketed and accepted by most as harmless are actually killing and maiming large numbers of people. The FDA even reviewed the claims that Aspirin prevents heart disease and heart attacks and concluded that those claims were false, and has required the aspirin companies to stop making that claim.  Unfortunately for many, their cardiologist and primary care doctors may not have got the memo, leading them to make outdated suggestions and downplay the dangers of daily aspirin usage. Tylenol or acetaminophen, is not officially an NSAID, but damages the liver, an organ you cannot live without.  It is responsible for 25,000 hospitalizations and 50,000 emergency room visits every year. Most people are able to be saved if they get treatment soon enough but often with serious and permanent liver damage. Because of these major risks of seemingly safe drugs, it is important for Americans to have a better understanding of pain, and more education on the risks of OTC drugs. Chiropractic plays a key role in maintaining alignment, mobility, and function as well as in lowering pain.  At New Wave Chiropractic Center, the doctors and staff understand the risks of OTC and prescription pain killers and they know what is at stake when patients come in with pain.  We also strongly advocate for wellness chiropractic care, which is like going into a dentist for a cavity check.   We align the body and give proactive health advice on these visits, instead of constantly reacting and chasing pain.  Patients that do this regularly tend to have better health overall, spend less overall on medical expenses, and have lower hospitalization and prescription usage.
